Frequently asked questions

How does Brink work?

Pick the apps that eat your time, set two numbers (how long you're allowed in them, and how long they go away afterwards) and press Start. When the first countdown ends an alarm goes off and the apps are blocked; when the second ends they come back on their own.

Why does Brink ask for Screen Time access?

Blocking apps on iPhone is done by Apple's Screen Time system, and Brink needs your permission to use it. Brink asks the first time you press Start. Apple's picker hides which apps you chose from Brink, so we never see them.

Brink isn't blocking my apps.

Check that Brink is allowed in iPhone Settings › Screen Time › Apps with Screen Time Access, and that the apps are selected in your block. If Screen Time access was turned off and on again, open Brink once so it can pick the block back up. If it still doesn't work, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.

I didn't hear the alarm.

The alarm is a notification, so it follows your notification settings, Focus modes and silent switch. Make sure notifications are allowed in iPhone Settings › Notifications › Brink, and that Brink is allowed through any Focus you use.

Can I end a block early?

On the free plan, yes: open Brink and tap Let me in. With Strict Mode (Brink Pro) you can't. The block runs to the end, and the apps can't be deleted to get around it while it holds. That's the point of Strict Mode, so turn it on only when you mean it.

Is Brink free?

Yes. One block, both timers, the alarm and today's screen-time counter are free, with no time limit. Brink Pro adds Strict Mode, schedules, more than one block, Trends and streaks, and one emergency unlock a week. It's available yearly (with a free trial for new subscribers) or as a one-time lifetime purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription?

In iPhone Settings, tap your name › Subscriptions › Brink, or use Manage subscription in Brink's Settings. Brink keeps working on the free plan.

How do I restore my purchase?

Tap Restore on the Brink Pro screen while signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with.

Can't I just get around it?

A determined you can get around any Screen Time blocker, including this one, and we'd rather say so. Brink is built to break the autopilot reach for your phone, not to be a jail.
